Ridgefield, CT (May 28, 2024): Registered Democrats in Ridgefield’s 111th State House District, meeting in caucus at Town Hall, unanimously nominated State Representative Aimee Berger-Girvalo for reelection in November.
Berger-Girvalo’s name was placed in nomination by Ridgefield First Selectman Rudy Marconi, who heralded her tireless and successful efforts on behalf of the Town of Ridgefield.
Local education advocate and former teacher, Colleen Broderick, seconded the nomination, citing Berger-Girvalo’s deep community involvement and commending her “ability to listen, understand, and act on the concerns of her constituents, ensuring their voices are heard and their needs addressed.”
At the close of nominations, other Ridgefield residents offered their endorsement. Pastor Deborah Rundlett of Ridgebury Congregational Church and Director of the Meetinghouse, Berger-Girvalo’s daughter Gracie Girvalo, and community organization activist and director Amanda Cordano lauded Berger-Girvalo’s dedication to Ridgefield, effective representation of the town’s interests, strong moral compass, and unwavering commitment to justice and human rights.
In her acceptance remarks, Berger-Girvalo thanked the caucus participants, First Selectman Marconi, Ms. Broderick, the endorsers/speakers, Ridgefield Democratic Town Committee Chair (and caucus chair) Arny DiLaura, and residents throughout Ridgefield.
Berger-Girvalo spoke passionately about doing the heavy but satisfying work of cultivating trust and relationships across the aisle, citing dozens of bills she led to passage with bi-partisan support; she punctuated the point by relating how she is found on the GOP side of the chamber during crucial votes, answering questions about the legislation.
Berger-Girvalo favorably contrasted bi-partisanship that arises from the pragmatic, good-faith pursuit of common interests and needs, against a faux bi-partisanship that pursues substance-free compromise as its own end, without meaningful positive impact or worse, with deliberately harmful ramifications. She assured constituents across Ridgefield that she will continue to both deliver for the needs of our town and state, and to represent the moral values of compassion, justice, tolerance, inclusivity, equity, and humanity that make Ridgefield so special.
Underscoring the family focus of the evening, caucus participants were entertained by the acoustic musical stylings of State Rep. Berger-Girvalo’s son, Ridgefield High School graduating senior Austin Girvalo, before the caucus was gaveled into session.
