Ridgefield, CT, November 6, 2024 – The Ridgefield Democratic Town Committee is seeking candidates to fill a vacant seat on the Inland Wetlands Board. The vacancy is created by the resignation of Inland Wetlands Board member Isaac Flattau.
The Ridgefield Town Charter requires that a vacancy on an elective board be filled with a person who is a member of the same political party as the party on whose row the board member filling that seat was most recently elected. Since Mr. Flattau was appointed to fill a vacancy created by the resignation of Benjamin Nissim from the Inland Wetlands Board, and since Mr. Nissim was elected as a Democrat for a term running from November 2023 to November 2027, it is required that the person appointed to fill this vacancy be a registered Democrat. The person who is appointed will fill the seat until the November 2025 municipal election. In the November 2025 election, a candidate for that IWB seat will be elected by Ridgefield voters to serve the final two years of the term to which Mr. Nissim was elected.
The DTC requests that any registered Democrat in Ridgefield, who may be interested in filling this seat, send a statement of interest as well as a resume or biography (or equivalent) to recruitment@ridgefielddems.org, by 1:00pm on Friday, December 6, so that a DTC subcommittee may interview potential candidates and the DTC can make an endorsement in a timely manner. Depending upon timing, the vacancy will be filled by either the Inland Wetlands Board or the Board of Selectpersons. The DTC will make its endorsement to whichever of those two boards assumes the responsibility in accordance with the Town Charter for filling the vacancy. Interested persons are advised that the Inland Wetlands Board or the Board of Selectpersons, as the case may be, will conduct its own official selection process for filling the vacancy and will have its own application process. The Inland Wetlands Board’s process or the Board of Selectpersons’ process is separate from the DTC’s process. The DTC’s endorsement is advisory to the Inland Wetlands Board or the Board of Selectpersons.
