Only one choice this year
I am 79 this year. And I have proudly represented Ridgefield for 28 years, working with people from both parties I believed were not only looking out for Ridgefield, but all Americans as well.
I grew up in a home where we knew from personal experience Democracy wasn’t Equality; a single mom and her school-age daughter couldn’t get a loan at the bank without a male signature, my friend who had to drink from another water fountain when we traveled south together. No, our Democracy was far from perfect, but always we had hope. Hope we could make things a bit better by voting for a reasonable candidate whichever the party.
I grew up to believe it was the “person not the party,” I was voting for each time I voted. That’s what I chose to believe until 2020 when one by one I saw men and women I had thought fair-minded, lay down and let themselves be trampled upon. For what? To keep jobs that they themselves have made redundant?
Today, I will not vote for a single Republican candidate. No matter my personal affections. How could I? Trust a representative who does not shout out against the end of due process in America? the suppression of free speech? the permissible questioning of people of different colored skin? What kind of American Patriot are you if you’re a candidate for office and you don’t standing up to rail against these abominations?
I will absolutely vote on Election Day, and I will vote only row A. Of course all our Democratic candidates are educated and qualified and will continue to serve with distinction, but it is their values and outlook that mean so much. We look forward toward a better world, not back to 1952.
