Not Going to Happen. Not on Our Watch.

All bullies are cowards.

The ill-advised policies from the Republican regime and its lickspittle legislators are coming fast and furious. Their unelected co-conspirators are breaking laws left and right. The frenetic pace is designed to sow confusion, overload, and ultimately induce a sense of apathy and resignation.

Not going to happen. Not on our watch.

All bullies are cowards and will fold in the face of determined opposition. Donald Trump is no exception. The most recent example is that Trump wimped out on tariffs on Mexico and Canada after 1) The Wall Street Journal called him stupid and 2) the stock market fell sharply Monday morning.

Even more revealing, Trump caved to Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum and Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. To put it diplomatically, neither Sheinbaum nor Trudeau served as the inspiration for the Rolling Stones classic “Street Fighting Man.” They got over on him by stating they would do what they were already doing, and he fell for it.

What must we do?

First, show your support. Support our Federal elected officials who are opposing Trump’s Republican agenda in the House and Senate. As of this writing, Democratic Senators led by our own Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy are implementing filibusters to prevent the worst of Trump’s cabinet picks from getting Senate confirmation. (Of course, judging the worst of Trump’s picks is like trying to judge a beauty contest for Gila monsters.)

Watch Senators Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy, Sat., Feb. 8, 12:30PM. They are holding a Citizens Meeting in West Hartford about defending our communities and responding to Trump’s illegal power grab.

And support our state elected officials who are taking legislative and legal steps to protect you, me, and your neighbors here and in cities and towns statewide.

Second, be judicious in your reactions. Presidents have the power and authority to do certain things like implement tariffs. They do not have the authority to do things like end birth-right citizenship or abolish Cabinet Departments. These actions are already being challenged in court.

Finally, continue–and urge your friends and family wherever they live–to vote Democrats in and Republicans out at every level, every election, every time. We’ve been successful here in Ridgefield. Especially now, we should expect successes like ours to multiply.

Special elections are being held in CT and elsewhere over the next few months. Municipal elections will be held here in Ridgefield in November. And control of the House and Senate, as well as multiple governorships, will be up in 2026.

You have a role to play. Begin–or continue–whenever and wherever you can. It is, after all, We the People, who are in charge.
