On March 28, citizens across the country will rally and march in No Kings protests. In addition to a sidewalk demonstration in Ridgefield outside Ballard Park at 1 PM, there will be another
gathering later in the day in Danbury. Marchers will gather at 3 PM on the Danbury City Center Green (1 Ives St., Danbury), and the march will commence at 4 PM.
The Ridgefield DTC is proud to support both. Locally as Ridgefielders we want to condemn the actions of the Trump regime, here and abroad. It also is important to show our solidarity with our friends and neighbors in Danbury, who have been targeted by ICE thugs. People there are afraid to go to work, shop for food, and even take their children to school. We would love to see a huge turnout, both in Ridgefield and in Danbury.
Historian and journalist Garrett Graff has been closely tracking the Department of Homeland
Security, the parent organization of both ICE and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) for
years. CBP’s own disciplinary records show that over 4,900 CBP officers and agents (sworn law enforcement officers who carry guns and badges) have been arrested between 2005 and 2024. Considering the total force was about 48,000, this means that one out of ten has been arrested. On a per capita basis, CBP has had more criminals in its ranks than the immigrants on whom they have been unleashed. It is also important to note that Minneapolis Veteran’s Affairs hospital nurse Alex Pretti, was shot and killed by CPB officers, who then lied about what had happened.
Today, it is very difficult to find positives when the current leaders of our federal government not only condone but actively pursue authoritarian tactics both here and abroad. One stands out to me, however. The citizens of the Twin Cities–and Minnesota more broadly–showcase a different, and frankly more familiar America. Armed with nothing but whistles and cell phone cameras, they rallied together to stand up for those being targeted and abused by Trump’s goons. And they succeeded in forcing both a withdrawal of forces and modifications of thuggish tactics. Their actions serve as an example for the rest of us. Please join us in Ridgefield and Danbury on March 28th.
